The SC remarked that national exchequer faced a loss of 83 billion rupees due to OGRA.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of petitions pertaining to the hike in POL prices on weekly basis.The CJP inquired from chairman Oil and Gas Regulation Authority (OGRA) Saeed Ahmed Khan that under which law the tariff was being revised every week. The chairman failed to provide any satisfactory answer.CJP remarked that OGRA cannot implement hike in POL prices on the recommendations of government on weekly basis.Justice Jawad S Khawaja said that OGRA has the function to regulate and control hike in fuel prices.On which CJP remarked that OGRA should be closed if it can’t take any steps to control the hike, adding that national exchequer faced a loss of 83 billion rupees.The CJP issued directives to OGRA that it will not issue notification over the new prices of petroleum on weekly basis.The CJP said that an order over the CNG prices being coupled with that of petrol will be issued within next three days.
