Celebrations of 214th annual Urs of sufi poet Pir Waris Shah will start today at Jandiala Sher Khan.

The 214th Urs of sufi poet Pir Waris Shah will start at Jandiala Sher Khan near Sheikhupura today. People from close and far-off areas will attend the three-day celebrations of the Urs.The Punjab government had imposed a ban on all programmes last year including the Heer recitation competition among the pilgrims. Apart from the ban on literary programmes the Punjab government has also banned gathering of more than two people in the premises of the Shrine.Pir Waris Shah, best known for his seminal work Heer Ranjha, is also called Shakespeare of the Punjabi language. His poetic work is also translated in several languages of the world.
