Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas (KANA) and Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Tuesday evening took oath as the first Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. PML-Q boycotted the oath taking ceremony. Qamar Zaman Kaira vowed to hold elections in Gilgit-Baltistan on November 12. Chief Judge Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi administered the oath to the governor. Governor Qamar Zaman Kaira, after taking oath and addressing tribal leaders and high-ups, said that the name of Kashmir and Northern Areas Ministry would be changed to Ministry for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan soon. He said that Kashmir cause could not be forgotten or ignored. Kaira said that Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly would pass its own budget, adding that a council of 6 cabinet ministers would be constituted.
