The dual nationality bill has been tabled in the Senate while ANP has opposed the bill.
The Senate session headed by Senate Chairman Nayyar Bukhari continues in Islamabad.Federal Law Minster Farooq H Naek tabled the bill in the Senate while Awami National Party (ANP) and the PML-N opposed the bill.ANP leaderHadji Adeel said that the 22nd Amendment Bill has been tabled in the House whereas 21st Amendment Bill has not been presented as yet.Meanwhile, PPP Senator Raza Rabbani and Aitzaz Ahsan also expressed their reservations over the dual nationality bill.Coalition partners inluding ANP and PML-Q are opposing the bill while the government needs two-third majority for the approval.On the other hand,Supreme Court had suspended the National Assembly membership of MQMs Farhat Muhammad Khan, PML-Ns Malik Jamil Awan, PPPs Farahnaz Ispahani, Senate membership of Rehman Malik, as well as memberships of MPAs includingZahid Iqbal, Muhammad Ikhlaq, Amna Buttar, Dr Ahmed Ali and Nadia Gabol for holding dual nationalities.Article 63-C of the Constitution says: “A person shall be disqualified from being elected or chosen as, and from being, a member of the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament), if: He ceases to be a citizen of Pakistan, or acquires the citizenship of a foreign state…”
