Yousuf Raza Gilani arrives in Multan

Former PM Yusuf Raza Gilani arrived in Multan on Sunday first time after his removal from office.

A large number of PPP activists and supporters warmly received him at Rangu Bridge.Enthusiastic supporters of the former Prime Minister chanted slogans in his favor and in favor of Pakistan People’s Party.Addressing a public gathering at Qadirpur Raan on Sunday evening he announced starting of formal campaign for creation of a Saraiki province.Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani hoped the establishment of the Saraiki province will fulfil aspirations of the people of Southern Punjab and help resolve their problems.Talking to media during his short stay at Khanewal Railway Station, Gilani said the constitution is supreme but fact is that it is creation of the parliament which represents one hundred eighty million of Pakistan.On this ocassion, brother of former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PirMureed Hussain Qureshi announced to join Pakistan Peoples Party.Gilani said that he liked to step down but safeguarded the constitution. However‚ he said that no rule of contempt of court exists in the country‚ under which he has been disqualified.He said that the PPP is following the policy of reconciliation on every issue‚ including dual nationality to strengthen democracy.Earlier talking to media at Lahore Cantt station‚ Gilani said he has been sentenced for his steps to create Saraiki Province which is aimed at removing sense of deprivation among the people of South Punjab.He said PPP is the party which restored the constitution to its original shape and it will remain relevant in the next parliament as it enjoys majority in the Senate.To a question about the protest of Defense of Pakistan Council against the reopening of the NATO supplies‚ Gilani said that the government neither stopped nor reopened the supplies on the dictation of anyone. He said the government took the decision keeping in view the national interests.
