Supreme Court declares law ministry responsible for delay in the two rental power projects.

Announcing the detailed judgment in rental power project case on Friday, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that delay in the projects has raised the damage to the tune of Rs 113 billion..The apex court ordered the law ministry to look into the matter and take action against those responsible for delaying the Nandipur and Chechon Ki Maliyan power projects. The court said law ministry has not responded to the objections raised by the commission, which clarifies that the ministry admits the objections. The Nandipur Power Project, according to details was to be completed by April 2011 and its completion was to follow the completion of installation work of Chechon Ki Maliyan power project which was estimated to be completed next year. However, the work on both the projects was halted because of the illegal intervention of the law ministry and machinery brought for these installations remained stuck up at Karachi and Qasim ports. The operations of these two power projects set to produce 950 MW had hit snags due to illogical objections raised by the Law Ministry.
