Hajj case: Court dismisses Kazmi's acquittal plea

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Judge Central Khalid Shabir on Friday rejected the acquittal plea of former minister for religious affairs Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi in the Hajj corruption case.Justice Khalid Shabir remarked that the allegations against Kazmi were of a serious nature and that his acquittal plea was premature.The court also said that no statements of witnesses had been recorded and the former minister is expected to be indicted in the case on May 30.During last hearing, the FIA submitted its report before the court, saying that it found no evidence against Kazmi. However, the agency declared Shakeel “main accused” and Raja “co-accused” in the hiring of residential buildings for Pakistani Hajj pilgrims at exorbitant rates in 2009.
