Democracy must be valued, says Turkish PM

Addressing joint session of parliament Turkish PM said democracy cant be achieved easily.

Turkish PM Tayyab Aurdgan said that democracy had attained universal status and it cannot be achieved easily.Democracy is the sole way by which issues faced by the people can be resolved, he said. “It should be the first and foremost duty of the government and parliament to keep in the view that economic and political stability of the country.”Democracy is heavy responsibility which government shoulders for the betterment of society.Commenting on Opposition’s role, he said that the Opposition should not criticize the government without any reason; rather it should guide the government for reformation.He said that Turkey had historical ties with Pakistan as it had supported Turkey on the eve of Salvation War which had been imposed by western forces for their vested interests.Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to always stand by Pakistan in the hour of trial.He said our brotherly relations and love and affection are an example for the entire world. He said the history has proved that Turkey has always considered Pakistani people as their brother. He said both the countries share their pains and happy moments. He expressed grief over the incidents of Siachen and the plane crash.He said he feels proud to have got the opportunity to address this august house twice.The Turkish Prime Minister lauded the democratic process in Pakistan and expressed the confidence that parliamentarians would address the challenges facing people of Pakistan.He said multi-party system in Pakistan is strength of the country and the parliament can safeguard the interests of people of Pakistan.He said a strong democratic Pakistan has much to do with regional peace‚ prosperity and stability.Prime Minister Erdogan pointed out strengthening of the economic structure is a must for strengthening of the democratic process.He referred to close economic ties between the two countries and expressed the confidence that establishment of high level economic cooperation council‚ joint economic commission and joint working groups would give impetus to their cooperation.He said the two countries have decided to take their bilateral trade to two billion dollars and it is his desire to take it even beyond that.The Turkish Prime Minister also hoped that cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries would also continue.He said both Pakistan and Turkey are important and powerful regional countries and they will continue their joint efforts for peace in the region and the world at large.The Turkish Prime Minister noted that peace‚ stability and prosperity in Afghanistan will also have positive effects on the economy of Pakistan.Expressing his concerns over the problems faced by the Muslim Ummah‚ Prime Minister Erdogan said that resolution of these problems lies in the unity among the Islamic countries.Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani‚ Governors of Punjab‚ Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa; Chief Ministers of Punjab‚ Sindh and Balochistan; President and Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan; Services Chiefs and foreign diplomats were also present.
