Karachi: Lyari operation enters 8th day

Tension prevailed in Lyari as firing continued in Cheel Chowk, Afshani Gali and Nawalane areas.

Firing erupted in Cheel Chowk, Afshani Gali and Nawalane areas as Lyari operation entered 8th day. Earlier, police tried to enter narrow streets in Lyari with the help of armored vehicles specially brought from interior Sindh to take part in the ongoing operation but heavy shelling and grenade attacks by criminals foiled all attempts of law enforcement agencies.On the other hand, IG Sindh Mushtaq Shah has claimed some success in the ongoing Lyari operation and said that that war against criminals has entered into final phase. He also claimed that Taliban are also present in Lyari.Meanwhile, police said that they have taken control of Afshani Gali and claimed to have destroyed many trenches of the criminals.
