SC seeks report on Vani and Swara

The SC has directed all the provincial police chiefs to present a report regarding Vani and Swara.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard a case regarding Vani and Swara. The court ordered the provincial police chiefs to present a detailed report on Jirgas and Punchait’s decisions regarding Vani and Swara.Vani and Swara are the inhuman customary practice of giving minor and young girls in marriages to rival group for settling disputes. These customs are in vogue in different parts of the country.The Supreme Court also ordered Punjab IG police to arrest the accused of Sheikhupura gang rape within 72-hours.
