KARACHI (Web Desk) - A new case of polio has been reported in Karachi East district, bringing the total number of cases reported across Pakistan in 2026 to seven, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

Of the seven cases reported so far this year, five have been recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two in Sindh, the NEOC said.

The last polio case in Karachi was reported in December 2024, according to the centre.

Polio is an incurable disease, but it can be prevented through vaccination.

The NEOC announced that the next nationwide anti-polio campaign will be held from November 2 to 8, 2026.

The campaign will cover 97 districts across the country, including all districts of Karachi.

During the campaign, more than 23.9 million children under the age of five will be administered polio vaccine drops.

The NEOC urged parents to ensure that their children receive polio drops during every vaccination campaign and complete their routine immunisation schedules on time.

Health authorities continue to stress that repeated vaccination is essential to protect children against polio and prevent the spread of the disease.
