Pakistan completes preparation for free childhood cancer medicines at four major hospitals
Pakistan prepares free cancer medicines for children at four major hospitals, aiming to start supply by end of 2026 and improve survival rates nationwide.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan has completed preparations to provide free cancer medicines for children at four major hospitals under a joint initiative of the government and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Officials said more than 8,000 children in Pakistan are diagnosed with cancer every year. The program aims to ensure free and quality treatment medicines are available by the end of 2026, giving families a ray of hope.
Pakistan has joined a global platform and has become the second country in the region to be part of the initiative. Authorities have set a target to double the survival rate of children suffering from cancer by 2030.
Under the plan, UNICEF will handle the purchase and delivery of medicines to Pakistan. Globally, about 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, making access to treatment a major challenge.
Health officials say this step could be a game changer and help many families who struggle to afford expensive cancer treatment.
