Countrywide anti-polio drive to begin tomorrow

LAHORE (Web Desk) - The anti-polio drive will start in Punjab’s six specific districts from tomorrow, which will continue until 9th of this month.

During the drive, forty thousand polio workers will administer polio drops to a total of 6.4 million children up to five years of age, in districts of Lahore, Okara Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Mianwali.

The head of the anti-polio program in Punjab Khizr Afzal said that all the preparations have been completed.

The summer season poses a significant risk as it creates favourable conditions for the spread of the virus, he said adding that increased traffic during the summer and Eid holidays further heightens the risk of transmission.

Similarly, the five-day anti-polio drive in 23 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also begin on Monday.

More than 3.5 million children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio drops during the anti-polio drive.

As many as 18,300 teams have been formed which will visit door to door in these districts to administer polio drops to every child.

Meanwhile, seven-day anti-polio drive will begin in 14 Districts of Balochistan on Monday.

Coordinator Emergency Operation Center Balochistan Syed Zahid Shah said due to expected heatwave in Nasirabad, Sibi, Jaffar Abad, Ustha Muhammad, Dera Bugti and Sohbatpur the anti-polio drive will begin on 8th June.

He said during the drive, more than 1.8 million children up to five years of age would be administered anti-polio drops.
