Govt raises price of surgical items by 70pc
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government of Pakistan on Wednesday pulled off tax exemption on surgical items after which a rise of 70 per cent (pc) was observed in their price.
The surgical companies will have to pay taxes ranging from 65% to 70% to purchase exported surgical items. The government had given tax exemption on about 61 surgical items which has been pulled off.
Surgical items on which the tax exemption has been removed include N-90, the surgical mask, the PCR kits, syringe inford pumps, auto-syringe, X-ray mobile machines and Ultra-sound machine, Electronic suction machine, face shield, surgical gloves, stomach tube, IV Canola, ECG Machine, disposable shoes core, ITT tube and ambu bag.
It is pertinent to mention here that the ambu bag is considered as the hand ventilator and 20 per cent of the corona patients across the country are using this device.
President Pakistan Drug Lawyers Forum Noor Mehr says that if the tax exemption notification is not extended again by the government, it will be difficult for the people of Pakistan to buy surgical instruments.
