Celebrities turn out for Muhammad Ali's 70th birthday celebration in Las Vegas.
Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was honored Saturday night at the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas as singers, actors, athletes, and former opponents turned out to celebrate the 70th birthday of the man known simply as The Greatest.8-time Grand Slam singles champion Andre Agassi, just one of the few sports legends in attendance, praised Ali for his work out of the ring.Heres a man who has always been true to himself, a man whos always been speaking on behalf of those who dont have a voice. Hes fought for hunger. Hes fought for equalities. Hes been tireless. Hes used his platform to do things far greater than what benefits him and I think hes been an example not just to other athletes who strive to have his sort of impact but hes an inspiration to all of us, said Agassi.NFL Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown said he wanted to be there to pay his respects to the Champ.He was a great champion. He sacrificed everything on principles. Hes a great American and hes got a tremendous sense of humor and he loves people, and I mean all people, not just African-American people, but all people. And I think hes a great example of a man who stands up when everything is taken away from him and hes still standing now. So Im here to pay my respects, said Brown.The celebration featured performances from a variety of artists and Muhammad Alis daughter, Rasheda said there was one singer she knew her father would be thrilled to see.I cant wait to see his expression when Stevie Wonder comes out. He has a long history with Stevie Wonder. Hes known him his whole life, said Rasheda Ali.The celebration was Keep Hope Alives 16th annual Power of Love Gala. Proceeds from the event will go to the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and the Muhammad Ali Center in Alis hometwon of Louisville, Kentucky. The boxing legend has been battling Parkinsons disease since 1984.
