LAHORE (APP) - Singer Meesha Shafi has challenged a trial court verdict in a defamation case by filing an appeal before the Lahore High Court (LHC).
In her petition, filed through a counsel under the Defamation Ordinance 2002, the singer raised legal objections to the March 31, 2026 judgment, which imposed a fine of Rs. 5 million.
The appeal argues that the trial court failed to properly evaluate both the facts and the applicable law, and decided the defamation claim without first determining the sexual harassment allegations on merit.
The petitioner contended that an unproven allegation cannot automatically be treated as false, adding that in harassment cases, a credible statement by the complainant may be sufficient.
The appeal further maintains that the trial court relied on assumptions regarding the complainant’s conduct, misread the evidence, and erred in concluding that a professional relationship between the parties ruled out the possibility of harassment.
The petitioner has requested the high court to set aside the impugned judgment. A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court is expected to take up the appeal for hearing.
