LONDON (Web Desk) - British superstar Adele has etched her name even deeper into music history as her iconic album ‘21’ has officially become the best-selling album of all time.

The landmark achievement was confirmed when it was revealed that Adele’s 2011 record has overtaken Whitney Houston’s legendary 1992 soundtrack ‘The Bodyguard’.

According to figures reported by The Sun, ‘21’ has now sold 56.375 million copies worldwide, narrowly surpassing ‘The Bodyguard’, which sold 56.372 million copies.

Adele’s rise to global superstardom was largely driven by the massive success of ‘21’, an album that dominated charts and resonated with audiences around the world.

Tracks such as ‘Someone Like You’, ‘Rolling in the Deep’, ‘Rumour Has It’ and ‘Turning Tables’ became defining anthems of the decade and cemented her reputation as one of the greatest vocalists of her generation.

Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack, long regarded as a cultural milestone, featured some of her most enduring hits, including ‘I Will Always Love You’, ‘I Have Nothing’, ‘I’m Every Woman’ and ‘Run to You’ held the record for more than three decades.

Reacting to the historic milestone, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder — who co-wrote ‘Turning Tables’ and co-wrote and produced ‘Rumour Has It’ — shared an emotional tribute on Instagram.

Tedder said none of those involved in ‘21’ fully realised at the time how monumental the album would become, adding that the team was simply focused on keeping pace with Adele’s creativity and passion.

He described breaking the long-standing record as “madness,” praising Whitney Houston and calling ‘The Bodyguard’ one of his all-time favourite albums, while acknowledging that records are meant to be broken.

With ‘21’ now topping the list and ‘The Bodyguard’ close behind, the rankings of the best-selling female albums of all time also feature global icons including Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morissette, Taylor Swift and Madonna — underscoring Adele’s extraordinary place among music’s greatest legends.
