Operation clean-up to check indecent performance on theatres enters second phase

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – The Punjab government operation cleanup to check vulgarity, obscenity and indecent performance on stage dramas enters second phase, with re-sealing Shahlimar Theatre for violating code of conduct for dramatic scripts and showing indecent dance.

During its campaign against violations of code of conduct for theatres and dramatic scripts, Lahore Cantt assistant commissioner found Shahlimar Theatre Manager Mahmood Akthar violating the rules and regulations approved for the theatres.

In a statement, Punjab Caretaker Information and Culture Minister Amir Mir said notices had been issued to the theatre owners across Punjab.

He said a ban had been imposed on all stage drams after the Punjab Arts Council revoked scripts of stage drams.

He added theatres will not show performances till the approval for amendment to Dramatic Act 1876.

He said approval for drama scripts is mandatory.

Before showing dramas, a full rehearsal will be carried out, which will be inspected by the representatives of the government, the information minister said.
