Actor urges ‘educated’ people to discourage child labour
LAHORE (Web Desk) - Mahira Khan came in the support of child domestic workers as the celebrity released a video raising her voice for all the victims of child labour.
“Child labour is illegal, wrong and unethical and we all must raise our voices against it,” the Pakistani diva said.
The video was originally shared by actor Nadia Jamil on X, formely known as Twitter.
Mahira appealed to the people to discourage the child labour and must raise the voice against it. Her video came days after teenage girl Rizwana was brutally tortured by her employer.
Rizwana was a maid in Islamabad and her employer Somia Asim was the wife of a civil judge.
The tragic incident became talk of the town and everyone demanded immediate arrest of Somia who was later booked on the growing public demand.
“When there are cases like Rizwana, there MUST BE ACCOUNTABILITY!”

Mahira speaks from the heart about the struggles of parents struggling below the poverty line.

“My message is not for the parents who are forced to send their children outside for work. No parent would want their children to be working at a school going age,” Mahira said.
The incidents like Rizwana are very common in those houses who are very educated and powerful, she said.
“Why? Maybe because they know they will get bail easily, there’s no accountability for them,” she said.
It is my appeal to all of you who are at good positions to raise voices against the child labour, she said.
The celebrity also appealed to the lawmakers to play their role against the child labour.
Earlier, Pakistan’s acclaimed actor Sajal Aly had also raised her voice against the child and domestic labour.
