Alan Fakir was honoured with pride of performance award in 1980
LAHORE (Web Desk) - Renowned folk and Sufi singer Allan Fakir's singing is being reminisced on his 23rd death anniversary on Tuesday.
Sindh folk singer Alan Fakir was born in Jamshoro in 1932 and got popularity for a different style of singing. His real name was Ali Bakhsh. His melodious songs were aired by multiple government and private platforms. He belonged to the Mangrachi tribe.
Singing the folk poetry in a unique way and presenting the message to world shows how deeply Alan Fakir felt himself connected with the folk poetry.
Alan Fakir started singing folk poetry at the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, where believers and visitors listened to him. He not only promoted Sindhi folk singing but also apparel. Later, his further claim to fame was achieved through radio Hyderabad. Allan Fakir had mostly sung in the Sindhi language while some of his songs were in Urdu as well.
His famous song ‘Humma Humma’ became a huge hit. The song was primarily in the Sindhi language but later on a duet was formed in Urdu with famous pop singer Muhammad Ali Shehkhi as ‘Allah Allah kar Bhayya’. Through his collaboration with famous singer Shehki, Alan Fakir peaked the height of fame.
Alan Fakir was also honoured with president’s pride of performance award in 1980 for his contributions to the folk music. He left the world at the age of 68 after battling deteriorating health in a private hospital in Karachi on July 4, 2000.
