Mumbai court acquits Shilpa Shetty of obscenity charges after 15 years

(Web Desk) - The Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has been acquitted of obscenity charges by the Mumbai court after 15 years.
The case was filed against the actress back in 2007 when the Hollywood actor Richard Gere hugged and kissed her on cheeks in public during an event in Rajasthan. The video from the event went viral and the actress had to face backlash from all over India. The kissing incident had also evoked a series of protests. An Indian court in Rajasthan had issued warrants against the actors.
According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Magistrate Ketki Chuan, Shilpa had clarified her position immediately after the incident. The magistrate was also satisfied with the provided clarification by the actress and considered that allegations against her to be baseless.
The court acquitted Shilpa Shetty of the charges against her after taking into account the clarification presented by the actress.
