Mementos from several other famous musicians of the past and present are going to be auctioned.
The red and black leather jacket worn by the late singer in his historic music video for Thriller will be up for auction at the end of June, along with a variety of other Jackson memorabilia and mementos from several other famous musicians of the past and present. The jacket is expected to fetch between $200,000 and $400,000 in its debut sale by Jacksons longtime costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush, who were given the item by the singer, Juliens Auctions said. Those figures, however, are extremely conservative, and Juliens Auctions believes that bidding could easily exceed the estimates. The 14-minute Thriller music video, featuring dancing zombies, was released in 1983 and is regarded as one of the most influential pop videos of all time. In 2009, it was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for its cultural and historical significance. The 2011 Rock Icons auction will take place at Juliens Auctions in Beverly Hills on June 25th and 26th.
