Noor Jehan received the highest civil decoration called Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
LAHORE (Dunya News) – December 23, 2016 marks the 16 death anniversary of Noor Jehan, known by honorific title of ‘Malika-e-Tarannum’.
Career of the artiste spanned over seven decades that involved service to the visual arts and music industry mainly.
Born with the name, Allah Wasai on September 21, 1926, she began her career in Calcutta at the age of nine as a child star. Noor Jehan was born in a music family and was taught the art since childhood.
She has to her credit singing at least 10,000 ghazals and songs in variety of languages including Punjabi, Sindhi, Ursu and Hindi.
Besides singing, Jehan started her acting career once she moved from then Bombay to Pakistan after partition and signed ‘Chann Wey’ in 1951 while her last film was released in 1961 named ‘Ghalib’.
Noor Jehan received the highest civil decoration called Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (The Pride of Performance) in 1966.
