LAHORE (Dunya News) - Schools reopened across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday following the end of summer vacations, but several educational institutions in flood-affected areas of Lahore and other districts remain closed.
In Lahore, the district administration has ordered 45 schools to stay shut due to flooding. These include government schools in Chuhng, Mohlanwal Multan Road, Mor Farukhabad, and Retigan Road. Central Model schools in Retigan Road, Maraka, Manga, Chuhng, Shadab Colony, Saggian, Tar Garh Shahdara, Bund Road, and Pari Mahal Shahdara will also remain closed until further notice.
According to PDMA, Punjab rivers are expected to experience heavy flooding between September 1 and 7, prompting the use of some schools in flood-hit areas as relief camps.
Earlier, the Punjab government had announced extended summer vacations due to intense heat, keeping schools closed from May 28 to August 14. The holidays were further prolonged until August 31 due to bad weather.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s plain areas, public and private schools and colleges have reopened after the summer break, resuming normal academic activities.
On the other hand, 20 colleges in Lahore division, including six in Lahore district, will remain closed for two days (September 1 and 2) due to the flood situation, according to a notification issued by Lahore Colleges Director Ehsan Mukhtar.
