Three injured by hand grenade explosion during bank robbery in Sargodha
SARGODHA (Dunya News) - Three persons including Bank Manager were injured in the explosion caused by hand grenade thrown during a bank robbery in Bhera.
As per details, the security guards at the bank stopped a man at the entrance as he was about to step inside. This unknown person was carrying a bag with him, while he told the guards that he has come to deposit cash and showed them the cash he had in the bag. Therefore, the guards let him in.
According to people in the bank, as the person entered, he threw a hand grenade towards the cash counter, which caused the bank to emit smoke after a severe explosion. There was a stampede among the people and taking advantage of the stampede, the man escaped.
The injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bhera. Due to the Bank Manager Niaz Ahmed’s critical condition, he was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Sargodha.
As soon as the incident was reported, DPO Sargodha Dr. Rizwan, Deputy Commissioner Sargodha Muhammad Asghar, SP Investigation Abdul Wahab Awan, CTD Squad, Bomb Disposal Squad, Civil Defence and other officials of the intelligence institutions rushed to the spot. They started their investigation by sealing off the area beside the bank.
SP Investigation Abdul Wahab and ASP Bhalwal initially gave details of the incident and said that our investigation is still ongoing. The bank has not yet reported any shortage of cash.
It is too early to call this incident terrorism. We are investigating every aspect, added the officials.
On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and immediately demanded a report.
