Trader receives extortion slip in Gujranwala
GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) - Fear and panic spread among traders of Gujranwala after a trader of Peoples Colony received an extortion slip.
The text of the FIR registered by the police said that an unidentified person sent a slip of Rs 200,000 to the house of a businessman named Emad Ahmed.
Police said extortion is on the rise in Wazirabad Circle. In addition, Alipur, Ahmednagar and Gakhar Mandi have become strongholds of extortionists.
According to sources, Sarfraz, the owner of the housing society, was tortured for not paying the extortion money. A few days ago, Ghulam Mohammad, a middleman, was shot dead for not paying extortion.
Police have failed miserably to arrest the culprits. The victims said that the police have been informed about all the movements of the accused but no action has been taken so far.
Citizens are in a state of panic as no legal action has been taken against the accused. Citizens have started migrating for fear of extortionists. Meanwhile, the police has said that efforts are underway to arrest the extortionists.
