Shooting incident leaves nine women and children dead in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Nine people, including four children, were killed and several others were injured in a shooting incident in Chauntra area of Rawalpindi. A large number of police officials reached the area after the incident was reported.

According to preliminary investigation by the police, the cause of the shooting was a dispute between two groups, intensified by a woman’s murder in Myal village a few days ago. The two clashing groups also had a long-standing enmity. Nine people, including five women and four children, lost their lives in the firing.

As soon as the incident was reported, police and rescue teams rushed to the spot of the crime. Police took control of the area, while ambulances rushed the bodies and injured to a hospital. According to hospital sources, the injured include three children who are being treated.

Police say a forensics team is on the scene to gather evidence. Those involved in the incident will be arrested and punished.

On the other hand, Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat took notice of the incident and directed the DPO to immediately reach the area and conduct an inquiry. Talking to media, he said that there was animosity between the two groups, causing the shooting but he is personally looking into the matter.

Raja Basharat said that if this was a long running feud then authorities should have made security arrangements, the concerned police station will be questioned.
