KARACHI (Dunya News) - A 20-year-old female law student Dua Nisar Mangi – who was kidnapped from Karachi’s Bukhari Commercial in the DHA early on Sunday – has returned home safely on Friday night after Rs2 million ransom was paid.

According to Dunya News, the student returned home safely after her family paid Rs2 million ransom to the kidnappers. The family kept the deal and other matters hidden from the police.

Dua’s mother expressed gratitude towards media for the safe return of her daughter, and said that it was made possible with all the awareness on the media. She informed about the well-being of Dua saying that she is better now.

Abductee’s father also thanked the media and civil society in helping the release of his daughter. He said: “I thank everyone who supported us in this dire situation and my daughter has reached her home safely due to all of you.”

Dua Mangi’s relatives also expressed gratitude and said that everyone, especially people of Sindh, cooperated with them, while not revealing the details about ransom.

While shedding light on the case, police reported that they were kept unaware of all the deals which had been made between the abductors and Dua’s family. On the condition of anonymity, it was told that Rs2 million was paid and it was all arranged by Dua’s family on their own.

According to sources, the kidnappers used the internet device, which was purchased from Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dunya News reported that police claimed that the criminal elements do not belong to Karachi but somewhere around Peshawar or its suburbs.

The police are going to continue the case and investigate it further to find the motives and all the information behind Dua’s abduction.

Earlier, according to a Karachi police spokesperson, police were investigating the case from different aspects and more than a dozen persons had been questioned.

The police and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee were also probing into the case from the perspective of a past kidnapping case, according to a police statement.

Dua’s family members had also received suspicious phone calls on the internet from suspected kidnappers, and subsequently informed the police about it.

After that information, police widened the scope of investigations into the case, and have been examining previous kidnapping for ransom cases to trace any evidence for the suspects. Many previous unresolved cases are also being investigated.

According to earlier report, the perpetrators took off with Dua in a grey Honda Civic, the model of which was around four years old.

Police also investigated the cell phone data of both the victims and geo-fencing of the site will also be carried out.

Police obtained eight different CCTV footages of the incident and have obtained statement of a rickshaw driver, who is claimed to have seen the incident.
