(Web Desk) - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is awaiting a response from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after formally raising security concerns over playing T20 World Cup matches in India.
According to reports, the BCB sent a detailed letter to the ICC two days ago outlining the reasons why it believes playing matches in India is not feasible due to security risks. The letter reportedly included evidence and supporting documents to justify Bangladesh’s stance.
BCB President Aminul Islam said that no response has yet been received from the ICC. “We have shared all the necessary documents and evidence with the ICC and conveyed our concerns clearly,” he said, adding that the board’s position remains unchanged and it must act in line with government directives.
Aminul Islam stated that no decision would be taken until the ICC officially responds. He also said he was unaware of reports suggesting Hyderabad or Chennai as alternative venues for Bangladesh’s matches, adding that a reply from the ICC is expected by Monday or Tuesday.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play three group matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. Despite the venue concerns, the BCB president said the team has been performing well in T20 cricket and would be competitive in suitable conditions.
Meanwhile, BCB sources claimed that if the ICC does not change the venues, the board will not accept the decision. The sources expressed confidence that the ICC would ultimately relocate Bangladesh’s matches to another country, such as Sri Lanka.
Amid pressure from extremist groups in India, the Indian Premier League recently released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. Following reported threats to the Bangladesh team, the BCB announced it would not send the squad to India for the T20 World Cup and formally requested the ICC to shift its matches to an alternative venue.
