Shahid Afridi pins hopes on Babar Azam for England Tour

LAHORE (web Desk) - Former national team captain and all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi has pinned his hopes on ODI team captain Babar Azam for the team’s tour of England.

In a statement, he said that the tour of England was a test of Babar Azam’s leadership skills and there was a huge responsibility on other players with whose help the young captain would be able to achieve the desired results.

The former all-rounder said that Babar Azam is the backbone of the batting line-up and he wants him to continue his good performance.

Shahid Afridi said that there is no problem in holding test matches without spectators due to coronavirus. But, the absence of fans in ODI and T20 cricket will definitely make a difference as it is a relatively fast format compared to Test cricket which requires a lot of enthusiasm and energy from the players, and the enthusiasm of the fans motivates the players to perform well. However, the players who feel pressure in the crowd have a chance to perform well in the empty ground, Afridi said.

"Personally, I don’t think cricket is fun without fans," he added. The pressure of international cricket is not easy so the player should be strong from within, only then can he perform well in the ground.

Shahid Afridi once again called for strict laws to rid cricket of corruption. In order to prevent corruption in the game, it is necessary to set an example by punishing a few players so that other players do not get involved in wrongdoing, he said.

On the claim of match-fixing in the 2011 World Cup, Shahid Afridi said that now it was too late to raise the issue but regardless, corruption in the game should not be tolerated.
