Qalandars beat Sultans to grab first PSL 3 victory

Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans by six wickets in the PSL 3 on Friday.

DUBAI (Dunya News) – Lahore Qalandars registered their first victory in the Pakistan Super League 2018 when they defeated Multan Sultans by six wickets on Friday.

Chasing a target of 115 to victory, Lahore Qalandars reached the target very easily with eight balls to spare.

Fakhar Zaman and Anton Devcich gave a blistering start to Lahore Qalandars and added 33 runs for the first wicket partnership. Devcich fell in the third over after scoring 22 runs in just nine balls. He hit five fours in his short innings.

Imran Tahir claimed the wicket of Fakhar Zaman in the next over. Fakhar made 16 runs. Agha Salman fell cheaply when Muhammad Irfan claimed his wicket when Lahore Calandars total was 41.

Wicketkeeper Gulraiz Sadaf and captain Brendon McCullum then joined hand together to steady Lahore Qalandars innings. They put on 53 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Gulraiz Sadaf departed after scoring 27 runs.

Brendon McCullum (35*) and Sohail Akhtar (11*) guided Lahore Qalandars to their first victory in the PSL 3 with eight balls to spare.

Earlier, young fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi of Lahore Qalandars claimed five wickets by giving away only four runs in his 3.4 overs spell to restrict Multan Sultan for 114 in their Pakistan Super League encounter in Dubai on Friday.

Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bat against Qalandars on a batting track. Kumar Sangakkara and Ahmad Shehzad gave Sultans a solid start before Narine removed Sangakkara in the ninth over when Sultans were 61 without loss and were well set for a big total. Sanga made 45 runs.

Ahmad Shehzad was the second man to go after scoring 32 runs and his wicket fell when Multan side reached 92 in the 13th over. Sohaib Maqsood became the victim of Narine after contributing 16 runs and his wicket fell at 97.

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s show started in the 16th over of Multan Sultan’s innings. He grabbed wickets of Shoaib Malik, Whiteley, Saif Badar, Junaid Khan and Muhammad Irfan. No other Multan Sultan batsman reached the double figures.
