Latif has been fined one million rupees along with ban.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has on Wednesday banned right-hand opening batsman Khalid Latif for five years, and fined him one million rupees in the spot-fixing scandal that marred during the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Latif played for Islamabad United in the super league, and all six allegations that were levelled against him under PCB’s anti-corruption code have been proven.

PCB’s lawyer Taffazul Rizvi said in his media talk that the duration of ban was in anti-corruption tribunal’s hands which heard the case, and it is not cricket board’s duty to capture the bookie.

It is worth mentioning here that Sharjeel Khan, who faced the same allegations, was banned for five years on August 30 by PCB. However, Khalid Latif’s sentence is the harshest so far as none of it is suspended unlike Sharjeel’s.

Let it be known that all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz and left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Irfan were also banned by the tribunal for one month and one year respectively for not informing PCB about the bookies’ offers that they received.

Irfan’s ban was reduced to six months as he followed the code of conduct that was issued by the governing body, and both players are now free to play domestic as well as international cricket.

The cases of other two characters of PSL fixing, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed, are being heard by the anti-corruption tribunal, and their decisions are yet to be announced.
