Williamson heads home with broken thumb

WELLINGTON (AFP) - A broken thumb has ruled New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson out of the rest of the Black Caps' Bangladesh tour and their trip to Sri Lanka, officials said Wednesday.
Williamson was struck on the thumb fielding at point during New Zealand's defeat in the first one-day international on Tuesday, immediately leaving the field and playing no further part in the game.
Black Caps physiotherapist Paul Close said an X-ray confirmed he suffered a fracture in his left thumb and would have to return home to New Zealand.
"This kind of injury unfortunately means Kane cannot take part in the rest of the tour and he'll return to New Zealand to begin his rehabilitation -- Kane is about six weeks away from playing again at this stage," he said.
New Zealand Cricket said Luke Ronchi would travel to Bangladesh to replace Williamson.
New Zealand have two more one-dayers and a Twenty20 international in Bangladesh before travelling to Sri Lanka, where they will play three one-dayers and two T20s.
