Weekly inflation rises 0.49pc as petrol, onion prices surge

Summary Weekly inflation in Pakistan rose 0.49 percent, pushing annual inflation to 9.66 percent as petrol, onions and chicken became more expensive, while several essential items recorded price declines.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The impact of higher petroleum prices has started to emerge as weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.49 percent, pushing the overall annual inflation rate to 9.66 percent.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its report on weekly inflation, showing that the prices of 23 essential commodities increased during the week, while 10 items became cheaper and prices of 18 commodities remained unchanged.

According to the PBS, petrol prices increased by 3.77 percent during the latest week, while onion prices rose by 14.17 percent and chicken became 3.35 percent more expensive. Prices of other essential commodities, including gram pulse, garlic and tea, also increased.

On the other hand, egg prices decreased by 5.78 percent during the week, while diesel prices recorded a decline of 5.15 percent.

The report said tomato prices fell by 4.99 percent and potato prices declined by 1.17 percent. Prices of sugar, LPG and bananas also decreased during the week.
