Caretaker minister vows to continue privatisation process
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Privatisation Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad said he would continue the process of privatisation as long as there was a mandate.
Speaking to the media, Fawad Hasan Fawad said that the ministry’s job was to privatise, not to close any institution.
"The caretaker government will not fire any employee. I am sitting in the caretaker government on the basis of merit. I am a civil servant. I am not a political party," said Fawad.
The privatisation minister said the privatisation of Pakistan Steel Mill was the need of the hour. It will be privatised if it was causing loss. As such, the caretaker government will not act outside its mandate.
Fawad further said no privatisation plan was started by the caretaker government but the previous governments initiated during its tenure
With the help of the caretaker finance minister, money was arranged for PIA within 48 hours to continue the operation of PIA. the minister informed.
“Only that government can give subsidy which does not face deficit. The deficit causes inflation and put burden on the common man. If the deficit of the government increases, the burden will also be increasing on the common man,” he said.
The privatisation minister added the previous government had constitutionally expanded the mandate of the caretaker government and even heard that PIA would be closed within three months.
