Committee directs FBR to allowing refund claims

FBR chairman said that the claims would be refunded within one and a half month.

Standing Committee on Finance directed the (FBR) to allow refund claims amounting to Rs 6 billion to 90 percent small tax payers.Committee met here Wednesday under its chairman Ahmad Ali. FBR Chairman Suleman Siddique briefed the Committee about performance of the FBR. He told that as per statistics provided by field officers tax revenue was collected Rs 1,590 billion till June, 30, 2011. When the statistics were obtained from headquarter system, these were found Rs 1538 billion and were below the set target, he disclosed.Committee member Ishaq Dar asked what punishment was given to the officers who had provided wrong statistics.The chairman FBR told the promotion of these officers was withheld. He indicated that tax revenue amounting to Rs 373.8 billion had been collected till September during the current fiscal while notices were sent to 120,000 persons for filing tax returns. Fake cases of Rs 58 billion had been unearthed, he stated.
