Successive govts changed petrol prices
LAHORE (Dunya Investigation Cell) – Since the incumbent PDM government has come to power, there has been 82 per cent increase in the petrol prices.
As for the other governments, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf increased the petrol price by 57 per cent from 2018 to 2022, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government increased it by 12 per cent and the Pakistan Peoples Party’s government increased the prices by 64 per cent.
According to the Pakistan State Oil statistics, petrol price increased by 12 times, decreased by eight times and remained stable 14 times in the past 15 months.
It should be noted that the petrol was sold at Rs150 per litre which was increased to Rs273 by changing it for 12 times.
PTI’s government increased petrol by Rs55 and sold it at Rs150 per litre from the previous Rs95 – it changed petrol price for 68 times. Moreover, during the same era, petrol was sold at maximum of Rs160 in February 2022 and at minimum, it was sold at Rs75 on June 1, 2022.
As for the PML-N’s government, the per litre petrol was sold at Rs100 when it came to power in 2013 which reduced to Rs88 per litre in 2018 at the end of its tenure – it changed price 64 times and petrol was sold at maximum at Rs113 per litre on Oct 1, 2013 and minimum at Rs63 on March 1.
With respect to the PPP, it changed petrol price 84 times – it increased petrol to Rs103 per litre from Rs63 and petrol was sold at a maximum of Rs108 on Sept 24, 2012 and minimum at Rs50 on July 8, 2009.
