CPEC changed Pakistan’s profile: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday said that the signing of the CPEC agreements had changed the profile of Pakistan in the whole world.

Talking to the media, Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday Pakistan had prepared the MoU of all the agreements in September 2014, but due to sit-in politics, the Chinese president had to postpone his visit to Pakistan and signing of the CPEC agreements was delayed.

The federal minister said energy projects were started immediately under CPEC in April 2015.

“The world began to look at Pakistan from the point of view of investment, under CPEC. China’s investment of $25 billion created employment opportunities in the country,” he said.

Iqbal said thousands of students were going to China to study under the CPEC project and it was expected that Pakistan would be able to progress rapidly in the next phase of CPEC.

“What is the turnaround? In the last four years Gwadar was neglected. The water project in Gwadar was kept in abeyance for four years,” he said.

The federal minister explained their government came to power and completed the water project in Gwadar.

“We have completed many projects in the last 14 months, why all these projects have not been completed in the last 4 years? Today the world is turning towards Pakistan again and China is re-investing in Chashma Nuclear Power Plant,” he concluded.
