Officials blame it on increase in demand of electricity

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Loadshedding continues to vex people in most parts of the country in the extreme weather conditions.

Power distribution companies resort to hours-long loadshedding in urban and rural areas, prompting people to take to the street at many places.

Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta reported long hours of loadshedding. Resident at several places say electricity is available only for a few hours in the day.

A resident of a locality in Lahore said people were facing a great deal of inconvenience due to prolonged outages. He said this also triggered water crisis as most people were dependent on power-run motors to have water for use.

In Peshawar’s urban areas, five to eight hours of loadshedding are reported, while rural areas of the city experience cuts as long as 14 to 16 hours, residents said. A resident said power cuts had affected businesses and routine life. He said as there was not much economic activity, it was becoming difficult to make both ends meet.

However, the authorities blame the outages on the increase in demand.

In Lahore, people are facing a similar situation, with some areas remaining without power for hours. Most residents say six-hour long outages have made life miserable.

A Lesco spokesperson says two to four hours of load management is being resorted to in several areas of the city.
