Target of agri loans not achieved in 2011: SBP

Volume of agri loans distributed by commercial banks surged, while volume of ZTBL loans decreased.

According to a report issued by the SBP, five big commercial banks distributed agriculture loans worth Rs 140 billion during FY 2010-11, 17% higher than the last year.On the other hand, the ZTBL only issued loans worth Rs 65 billion, l7% lower than the last year. The Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank Limited issued agriculture loans more than 25% as compared to the last year.The report further said that during the FY 2011, loans worth Rs 263 billion were issued to the farmers, despite the set target of Rs 270 billion.
