Petroleum levy down by 79pc in five months

Government is now receiving about Rs5 per liter in levy on petrol.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A reduction of 79 percent in petroleum levy was recorded in last five months; however, despite the fall, prices of petrol and diesel have risen in the country.

Government, in a bid to provide relief to masses, has significantly reduced the levy since January 2021.

Government, after reduction of 64 percent in petroleum levy, is now receiving about Rs9 on per liter diesel but despite the reduction, price of the commodity has risen about 25 percent as ex-refinery has increased to Rs79 from Rs63.

On the other hand, government is now receiving about Rs5 per liter in levy on petrol after a reduction of 79 percent. Ex-refinery price of gasoline has reached about Rs78 compared to earlier price of just Rs58.
