Inflation surges by 14.55 pc: FBS

The Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) Secretary Asif Bajwa said on Tuesday that Pakistan's consumer price index (CPI), a key indicator of inflation, rose 14.55 percent in January as compared to last year.

The CPI was up 1.30 percent during last one month. Pakistans wholesale price index (WPI) rose 22.60 percent in January from a year earlier, and 1.65 percent over December, he added. In January 2011, crude oil price increased by 7.6 percent, ghee price by 7.88 percent, tomato 25.13 percent, fruit 6.85 percent and rice price increased by 4.39 percent. Electricity rate was surged by 25.24 percent during last year.
