Dollar falls on mixed US data

The dollar fell against the euro after jobs and housing data painted a mixed picture of US economy.

The Labor Department said that the number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose this week by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 366,000.In a separate report, the Commerce Department said that builders broke ground on slightly fewer homes in July than June.But applications for building permits rose to their highest level since August 2008, a positive sign for future construction.The euro rose to $1.2362 in late trading Thursday from $1.2290 late Wednesday. The British pound rose to $1.5740 from $1.5687.The dollar fell to 0.9717 Swiss franc from 0.9773 Swiss franc.The dollar rose to 79.25 Japanese yen from 78.88 yen.
