Dollar falls after weak US jobs data

The dollar is trading lower against most major currencies on weak US jobs data.

The dollar fell against most other major currencies after the U.S. government reported that the number of people seeking unemployment benefits rose last week.The euro rose to $1.2278 late Thursday from $1.2264 late Wednesday. The British pound rose to $1.5720 from $1.5643.Unemployment benefits rose by 34,000 to 386,000, the biggest jump since April 2011, the Labor Department said Thursday.Separately, the National Association of Realtors said sales of previously occupied homes fell 5.4 percent in June to 4.37 million homes. Thats the fewest since October.The dollar fell to 78.58 Japanese yen from 78.80 yen. The dollar fell as low as 78.40 yen, its lowest point in over a month.The dollar fell to 1.0074 Canadian dollar from 1.0111 Canadian dollar.The dollar rose to 0.9784 Swiss franc from 0.9791 Swiss franc.
