Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen says that more taxes will have to be imposed on services to increase the tax base. He warned FBR officials of strict action if they didnt mend their ways. Talking to the reporters the minister said that tax-net couldnt be extended without the cooperation of politicians. He recommended value added tax system in place of sales tax. He opined that the economic condition couldnt improve in the country unless the tax system improved. The minister stressed the need of brining many products under tax net that were smuggled into Pakistan. He revealed that business community was ready to pay the taxes on the condition of not being harassed. The minister also warned the corrupt officers to give up corruption.
