Corporate sector urged to help sports promotion

The corporate sector has been asked to play its role in the promotion of sports in the country.

Aamir Sohail, former cricketer expressed these view during his visit to Islamabad Chamber and Commerce Industry (ICCI) on the special invitation of Sports Sub-Committee of ICCI. He said that there is no dearth of talent in Pakistan in any sporting fields but the only thing the youngsters avoiding sheer hard work as they want to become stars in overnight time.Amir suggested that corporate sector must sit together with Pakistan Cricket Board officials and chalk out a plan for the betterment of game and especially for financial help to retired players.He said that sports played an important role in grooming the personality of youngsters and polishing their talent, hence, there was a need of promoting sports activities while ensuring participation from the private sector as well.Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Tariq Sadiq, Chairman Founder Group said that there were a number of sports grounds across the country which were not being utilized properly as concept of club cricket is also diminishing.He said that all sports board should be free from political interference and players should be selected purely on merit so that good players could come forward and achieve better results for the country.Munawar Mughal, Executive Member and former president ICCI said that steps should also be taken for the capacity building of players and sports board so that healthy activities and sports could be promoted across the country.He said that ICCI always encourage sports activities to foster goodwill, understanding and friendship. He highlighted the various sports event organized by sports sub-committee of ICCI which include friendly matches, Pak-India Blind Cricket Series and many others.He stressed that public and private sector organizations should also allocate quota for sports which would ultimately promote sports culture in the country.
