TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Funeral prayers for Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and members of his family were held in Tehran on Sunday, with millions of mourners, senior Iranian officials and foreign delegations attending the ceremony, according to Iranian state media.

The prayers were held at Tehran's Grand Mosalla complex and were led by Grand Ayatollah Ja'far Sobhani, Iranian media reported.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and other senior government and military officials attended the funeral, alongside delegations from around 100 countries.

Large crowds gathered at the venue, many carrying red flags, which in Iran are widely regarded as a symbol of seeking justice and revenge for those killed. Mourners chanted slogans including "Death to America" and "Revenge, Revenge" during the ceremony.

The bodies of Khamenei and his family members, who Iranian authorities say were killed alongside him, have been placed on public display in Tehran to allow people to pay their final respects.

A central funeral procession is scheduled for Monday morning before the remains are transferred to the holy city of Qom. The body will then be taken to the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala before burial in Khamenei's hometown of Mashhad on July 9.

Iranian media said Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi will lead funeral prayers in Qom, while Grand Ayatollah Hossein Noori Hamedani will preside over prayers in Mashhad.

Khamenei, 86, was targeted in an airstrike at the start of the war with the United States and Israel on February 28, after ruling Iran with absolute power for nearly 37 years.
