SRINAGAR (Dunya News) – The occupied Jammu and Kashmir administration has intensified its crackdown on Kashmiris, with police filing charges against seven individuals under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and incorporating provisions from the Arms Act.

The charges, based on what are widely considered fabricated allegations, accuse the individuals of involvement in terrorist activities.

Additionally, police in Tral arrested four more people amid the ongoing wave of detentions.

Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 up to December 2024, a staggering 27,022 Kashmiris have been arrested.

Authorities have increasingly relied on draconian laws such as the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) of 1978, notorious for enabling arbitrary and unjust detentions without due process.

Human rights organisations have repeatedly raised concerns over the misuse of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) and the National Security Act (NSA), which allows authorities to detain individuals for up to a year without formal charges or trial. These legal frameworks continue to facilitate widespread human rights violations, arbitrary arrests, and suppression of dissent in the region.
