Ahmadinejad vows to break major powers' stranglehold

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pledged to break the stranglehold of the major powers in his first public comments since his re-election was upheld by authorities. We must use all the capacities to break the monopoly of the global powers, the official IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying following a chorus of criticism from Western governments over the conduct of the June 12 election and the regime's reaction to opposition protests over alleged fraud. Iran has repeatedly accused the West, particularly Britain and the United States, of meddling as its Islamic rulers struggle to contain the most serious upheaval since the revolution 30 years ago.
