SRINAGAR (Dunya News) – The Indian army has been provided with a new machine pistol, "Asmi" in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, 'Asmi' functions not only as a modern pistol but also as a submachine gun, which will be used during house raids and search operations.

The 'Asmi' was designed by Colonel Prasad Bansod with the cooperation of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and manufactured by Lokesh Machines.

The pistol is considered an important addition to the army’s Northern Command for operations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. However, its inclusion has raised concerns among local residents and human rights organisations about its impact on the safety of civilians.

On the other hand, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has passed a resolution calling for the restoration of Article 370, aiming to reinstate the special constitutional provisions that granted autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian government had unilaterally revoked Article 370 on August 5, 2019. While BJP members opposed the resolution, the majority of assembly members supported it.
